Follow the Three Second Dyne Testing Rule

Dyne Test Pens to Measure Surface EnergyThree seconds is all it takes to measure the surface energy of your material with our Dyne Test Pens.

The low surface energy of polymer based substrates often leads to poor adhesion of inks, glues and coatings.  For optimum adhesion it is often necessary to increase the surface energy of the substrate to just above that of the material to be applied.  Surface Treatment with either Corona or Plasma will alter the polymer’s surface chemistry and a well-used test for measuring this within the Converting, Printing, Packaging and Labelling industries is using the Dyne Test Pen.

Our Dyne Test Pens are known as the gold standard for online treatment measurement worldwide. The test fluid contained within the pens is to ISO 8296 with additional high visibility dye for easy reading.  To use simply draw the Dyne test pen across the material surface, the liquid will either form a continuous film on the surface or draw back into droplets.  Results are based on how long the test solution takes to form beads on the material surface.

Dyne Test Pens

Determining the surface energy can be achieved easily by using a range of Surface Energy Test Pens (Dyne level testing).  We offer:

  • Spring loaded tip meters fluid feed
  • Reliable & suitable for many R&D / lab applications
  • Hundreds of tests from each Dyne pen
  • 16 Standard levels, from 30mN/m through to 60mN/m
  • Additional values up to 70mN/m & non-standard values also available
  • Usable on virtually all smooth non-absorptive substrates
  • Six month shelf life
  • Various packs available including 6 pens up to 16 pens

Valve Tip Applicator

Based on the valve tip applicator, the principle is simple: keep the testing part of the pen away from the fluid storage part of the pen (in other words, you get no wicking of contaminants from the substrate into the test fluid reservoir).
